Robertson Travel Guide
Discover a slower side of the Cape Winelands, where award-winning wineries, rolling vineyards and warm country hospitality set the pace. Expect relaxed wine tastings, scenic mountain views, farm-to-table dining and a welcoming small-town atmosphere that makes Robertson an ideal escape for food, wine and outdoor lovers.
Fine Wines & River Cruises Viljoensdrift
A family-owned winery on the banks of the Breede River, where a 50-minute cruise on a flat-bottomed boat comes with a picnic basket built from their own deli. Wine tastings, a riverside deck restaurant and shady lawns make it an easy half-day out.
Lavender Farm Owl's Rest
A working olive and lavender farm in the Klaasvoogds valley, just up the road from us. Lavender, rosemary and rose geranium are hand-harvested and steam-distilled on site, and the farm shop sells the oils, cordials, tapenades and preserves that come of it. Coffee and light meals are served in the garden among the olive trees.
Robertson Wine Valley Safari
A local operator that runs guided tours of the valley in an open-air safari vehicle, stopping at three or four wineries with a driver so nobody has to worry about getting home. Routes take in the well-known estates alongside smaller cellars, with olive tastings and lunch along the way.
Wine Estate Springfield
A family estate run by the Bruwer family, best known for Life from Stone, a Sauvignon Blanc grown in rocky quartz soils. Tastings are held in a room and terrace overlooking a dam and the vineyards. No food is served, so bring a picnic.
Wine Farm Kranskop
A boutique cellar perched on the hill it takes its name from, three minutes up the road in Klaasvoogds. Winemaker Newald Marais still presses the reds on old basket presses, and the rustic tasting room looks out across the valley. Cheese boards are made up from local producers.
Steam Train New Cape Central Railway
A steam-hauled train that leaves Robertson station on Saturday mornings and runs down the Breede River valley through vineyards and open veld. Wine from local producers is sold on board at cellar prices, with craft beer and a small deli alongside, so it doubles as a tasting nobody has to drive home from.
